Welcome to our new blog, created to work hand in hand with our new website, bringing you up to date with all things voluntary and community.

We thought that our first blog post should introduce you to Links CVS: what we do and how we go about achieving it.

Our mission is simple, we're here to help you make a difference in our community. To help create a robust voluntary sector that continues to develop and has a voice to influence how our community grows and engages.

Links CVS provides support to voluntary organisations and community groups operating in the local government districts of Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.

Links CVS Support and Advice from the Start

We know that starting a new group can be a little daunting. At first, it does feel like there's a lot to be done. However, with the appropriate advice and support (from us!), it can be immensely satisfying and rewarding.

The first step is to identify what you want to achieve within your group? What are your goals? Who's on board with your idea?

Need help? You can find lots of useful information here on how to start a group.

Invaluable Information to Support and Inform

In order to establish a group or organisation and obtain funding, you will need to have certain elements in place. As part of our service, we provide governance advice including:

If you would like some advice or information concerning governance for your group, complete our simple questionnaire here and we'll be happy to help you.

One of the most important elements of managing a group or organisation is to be aware of the resources or funding available.

The purpose of a voluntary or charitable organisation is not to make a profit as an end in its own right. Instead, they are set up to meet the needs of local residents. For example: Befriending services, sports clubs, children’s activities & respite services.  In order to deliver these services, funding is essential.

Looking for funding can be a challenging experience, however, we’re here to help you with:

  • Funding searches
  • Funding applications
  • Preparing budgets
  • Eligibility
  • Needs assessment

To ask for help complete our funding questionnaire here.

Each week, we issue a funding bulletin that highlights new funding available. You can sign up to receive your copies of our funding bulletins here. You can also find the latest funding news on our website here.

Along with our funding and advice service we also work alongside other groups including the Children and Young People's Network, Chesterfield Climate Alliance and more.

We are focused on inclusivity and we jointly facilitate the Derbyshire Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Engagement Forum along with Derbyshire County Council. This forum supports the development of an infrastructure that enables the culturally diverse BME communities in Derbyshire to engage with DCC. Importantly, it provides feedback on DCC's policy and service developments.

We also work with the BME Forum groups on various projects including:

  • BME Mental Health
  • BME Carers
  • Sitting & Respite Service

Since 2016 (with help from The Big Lottery Celebrate Fund), we have been running regular Lunch and Mingle events (during the Covid pandemic, these were temporarily put on hold).

These 'mingle' lunches bring our diverse groups together, celebrating achievements and cultures and sharing news and information. They are always great events and definitely worth attending. So, for all our future events, please see our website here
