Hosts and Ukrainian refugees have now been meeting together on Saturdays for 11 weeks.  The meetings are coordinated by Links CVS & North Derbyshire Refugee Support Group.  They are kindly hosted by Central Methodist Church on Saltergate Chesterfield & the Quakers at The Friends Meeting House on Ashgate Road.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who give their time and resources to make everyone feel welcome. Timetable of meetings.

It has been invaluable for Hosts and Refugees.  There has been limited information from national or local government and the hosts have helped and supported each other to find their way around the labyrinth of  bureaucracy involved in sorting out  visas, payments from the Red Cross, registering for Universal Credit, opening a bank account, school placements, the list is endless.  There is information on Links CVS website which can be found here

Many thanks to Elina who has provided translation & Interpreting and to the Ukrainians who speak English with their help and Google translate we have managed to understand each other and learn about our different cultures and ways of living.

Relate have offered counselling sessions to Hosts and Refugees which have been welcomed.

We are planning for the future - an application has gone into Awards for All (Lottery Funding) to provide activities and trips.

The Saturday sessions will continue for the foreseeable future and we look forward to welcoming more refugees and hosts.  They have become a regular meeting place and we all enjoy sharing food and experiences with a mixture of laughter and sometimes tears.

A big thankyou to everyone who is involved.
