Community Radio Fund

Deadline: 8th December 2024

Ofcom, with funding from the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS), is offering grants for Ofcom-licensed community radio stations broadcasting on AM, FM, or by a Community Digital Sound Programme (C-DSP) license on a digital radio multiplex to help with the essential core work involved in running a radio station.

The Community Radio Fund can be used to support the core costs of running Ofcom-licensed community radio stations across the UK, including:

  • Management.
  • Fundraising to support the station (eg, grants, commercial funding).
  • Administration.
  • Financial management and reporting.
  • Community outreach.
  • Volunteer organisation and support.

The total amount available in the 2024-25 financial year is £400,000 across two funding rounds. There is no set level of funding. However, in the previous funding round, grants ranged from around £4,000 to £33,000. 

Applicant stations must be on the air as of the date of their application for their application to be considered. Payment can only be made to stations that have launched.

Lloyds Bank Foundation

Deadline: 23rd January 2024

The Foundation has announced that it will be awarding 83 unrestricted grants of £75,000 over three years, alongside tailored development support, to small, local, specialist charities supporting people to overcome complex issues in England and Wales.

Applications will be considered from charities and charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs) with an annual income between £25,000 and £500,000 who are working with people facing complex issues in England and Wales. They must have a track record of delivering services for at least one year, mainly to people aged 18 and older, and they must also be delivering these services currently.

Applicants must be providing in-depth services in one of the following eight themes:

  • Addiction
  • Asylum Seekers and Refugees
  • Care Leavers
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Homelessness
  • Offending
  • Sexual Abuse and Exploitation
  • Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery

Grants of up to £500 are also available for groups who need accessibility support to apply for this programme. The grant will help fund the cost of support, such as a scribe or BSL interpreter.

Young Gamechangers Fund

Deadline: 4th December 2024

Co-op Foundation, in partnership with Co-op and the #iwill Fund, is offering grants of up to £20,000 for youth-led groups across the UK to support social action projects and activities that create positive social change in their communities through activism, awareness training, campaigning, disrupting and challenging norms, and building co-operation.

Through the Young Gamechangers Fund, funding is available for groups with an annual income of less than £100,000 that can demonstrate that 75% of their leadership are young people aged between 10 and 25, and are committed to building community cohesion, bringing people together, and designing or testing innovative approaches to established challenges.

In this round, priority will be given to applications from young people with experience of:

  • The criminal justice system.
  • Barriers to accessing education.
  • Living in rural/isolated communities.
  • Living in coastal towns and communities.
  • Seeking asylum, being a refugee.
  • Social and financial barriers to accessing opportunities.

There are funding streams for organisations:

  • Project grants can be used to cover the costs of a particular programme activity, such as materials and resources, promotion, venue hire, transport, or staff time spent only on the project. Project grants are only available for groups in England.
  • Unrestricted flexible grants can be used for costs such as staff salaries, organisational overheads, maintenance of equipment and venues, and other general running costs. Unrestricted grants are available for groups across the UK.

Community Automated External Defibrillators Fund

The Department of Health and Social Care is currently running a £1 million match funded Community Automated External Defibrillators Fund, aimed at increasing the number of AEDs in public places where they are most needed and to help save lives.

All types of organisations may apply.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be based in England.
  • Not be an organisation that is eligible for the Department of Education scheme, eg, a school or an academy.
  • Locate the secure defibrillator on an external wall in an area that is accessible to members of the public 24 hours per day. (The equipment must be installed and registered on The Circuit within 4 weeks).
  • Be able to provide an electrical power source to ensure the defibrillator cabinet light and heater operate to keep the device at the right temperature
  • Provide match funding for their application (c. £750).

The funding is based on a 'first come first served basis'.

Applications will be accepted until all the funding has been allocated.

There are about 400 units left, and it is expected that the scheme will close to applications within four to six weeks from 1 November 2024 (by the end of November or mid December 2024) though it could be sooner.

Allen Lane Foundation

Deadline: Early December

The Foundation provides grants to small registered charities, voluntary groups and charitable organisations based and working within the UK. The funding is for work that focuses on specific groups within the UK that experience marginalisation and/or discrimination.

The Foundation has sharpened the focus of beneficiaries, particularly in the first three categories and the last (children/young people).

The following focus on adults only: 

  • Asylum seekers and refugees – The focus has been changed to women only. Offenders and ex-offenders – The focus now is solely on organisations supporting female offenders, and those in prison for violence against women.
  • Older People – funding is focused on projects that benefit isolated elderly people (generally aged 70+) including those with dementia.
  • People affected by violence or abuse – work that supports both men and women who are, or have in the past been, affected by violence or abuse.
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities – support groups within these communities and organisations that work to benefit them.
  • People with mental health issues – support for mental health charities and projects that benefit people with moderate or severe mental health issues.

In addition, there is funding for work with:

  • Young people – aged 12-21 who are vulnerable, socially excluded or marginalised with a focus on those who are persistently absent from school; school leavers with no qualifications; and young people in/leaving care.

The maximum grant is £15,000. This can be a single grant, or over two to three years. The average grant is £5,000 to £6,000

FCC Community Action Fund

Deadline: 20th November 2024

Not-for-profit organisations with amenity projects sited within 10 miles of an eligible FCC Environment waste facility can apply for funding under Object D/DA of the Landfill Communities Fund. The following organisations may apply for grants of between £2,000 and £100,000:

  • Registered charities which operate a community facility.
  • Churches or Parochial Church Councils.
  • Parish or Town Councils or Management Committees or User Associations acting on behalf of Parish or Town Councils.
  • Local Authorities.
  • CASC Registered Sports Clubs.

The funding can be used for projects with a maximum cost of £500,000 which involve provision, maintenance or improvement of public amenities. All project sites must be open and accessible for the general public without any limit or restrictions on use (or with reasonable access costs) in place.

Applications will only be accepted for projects based within 10 miles of eligible FCC Environment waste facilities across England and based at the following:

  • Village halls and community centres.
  • Public play areas.
  • Publicly available Multi use games areas, skate parks and BMX tracks.
  • Sport and recreation grounds including pavilions and clubhouses with full public access.
  • Churches – community spaces only.
  • Nature reserves.
  • Public gardens, parks, country parks and woodlands with at least dawn to dusk access.
  • Museums

Applicants should use the FCC calculator to determine if their project is located within an eligible area.
